Seeing Expressive Color with All Mediums 2-Day Workshop

Times: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Breakdown of the day: (Watch instructor video 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Zoom session 10am-12pm, Independent work 12pm-3pm, Zoom Review 3pm-4pm) Videos will be emailed the evening before each class.
Price: $200 for members or $250 for non-members
Important Requirements: Each artist must define their medium of focus prior to class and contact the instructor so she can get to know you and your workshop goals. You will receive a daily pre-workshop video to watch before the first Zoom meeting. You will also need your own photos, sketches, or studies to work form during this workshop.
Class Description: Two prerecorded videos pertaining to the medium of your focus will be emailed to you prior to class.
Discover how to see beyond the obvious within the landscape, and use expressive color to capture the essence of mood and atmosphere. We will explored the subjects of earth, water, sky, and more. Whether you work in pastel, oil, watercolor, or acrylics, you will learn to see the depth of color and create a unique and personally expressive painting.
Skilled in all mediums, Susan is a seasoned plein air and studio painter, as well as a national product demonstrator, who will lead you to your personal color expression in the medium of your choice. Each day will begin with a prerecorded video and a short Zoom demo focusing on methods that will aid in color expression. The day will conclude with a Zoom session reviewing each artists’ experience in their studios. Instructor will also review each artists’ work and email advice.
We will explore:
How to set up and refine your personal working studio space
Painting Surfaces and tools related to your medium
The use of underpainting or color compliments to support your personal expressive color
Color mixing for how to see and use expressive color
“Thumbnail Sketches” and their importance in supporting strong compositions and values
How to “Target Focus” on what inspires you in the landscape
How to resolve an unfinished studio painting

Day One:
NOTE: 1st Prerecorded Video must be viewed before the start of each class-
10am-12pm: 2 Hour Zoom Session (Zoom video #1 will be sent to enrolled students after class)
Meet & Greet: Susan’s teaching philosophy is to “Connect, Inspire, and Support”. Each student will have an opportunity to share their art and what their goals are for this workshop.
Discuss the Recorded Video.
Instructor will conclude this session with a short demo relating to the video.
12pm-3pm: Lunch & Independent Work
3pm-4pm: 1 Hour Zoom Session: Discuss that day’s work and what we will do on the second day.
Day Two:

10am-12pm: 2 Hour Zoom Session (Zoom video #2 will be sent to enrolled students after class)
Discuss the 2nd Video and review each artists’ work inspired by the prerecorded video
Instructor will support with a short demo relating to this workshop
12pm-3pm: Lunch & Independent Work
3pm-4pm: 1 Hour Zoom Session: Discuss that day’s work and where you want to go next with your work.
