Hameau Farm Studio Artist Retreat is a gathering place for artists to share, create, learn, and have fun. The unique studio, variety of landscape views, seasonal farm to table food, and camaraderie compel the artists to return. From the beginner to the professional artist, Hameau captures and inspires the creative spirit in a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Susan Nicholas Gephart believes in nurturing the "Artistic Spirit" of the individual artist. Hameau Farm Studio in The Big Valley of Central Pennsylvania has been the perfect place for her to organize Artist Retreats for the last 20 years.
We welcome artists of all media and levels, serve beautiful meals catered to individual needs, and we will work to fit your schedule, interests, and budget.
The panoramic views and comforts of the Hameau Farm Studio along with its well-lit space for demos, critiques, and painting make it an ideal getaway for artists. The beautiful fields, valleys, Amish farms, and lush Kish Creek await the colors of your palatte. Beyond Hameau lie Brookmere Vineyards, Plum Bottom Farm lane, and the view of Juniata Valley at Jack's Mountain.
Life doesn't get much better for artists, when all they have to think about is "Which beautiful scene should I paint next?"
The annual retreats offer day options and personal plans to fit your schedule and budget. Each retreat is geared towards the artists’ mediums, levels, and needs.
The May retreat is five days, starting on Tuesday and ending on Saturday with a Sunset Paint-Out and live music. The Fall retreat is held at the end of September.
Instructor/Facilitator, Susan Nicholas Gephart has been painting award-winning landscapes plein air, and teaching for over fifty years. She is a Dedicated Workshop Instructor for Gamblin Oils, and a demonstrator for Sennelier watercolors, Jack Richeson products, Multimedia Artboard, and Art Cocoon. All her workshops are backed by these national art supply companies. Susan is an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America and the interim Vice President and signature member of the Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society.

One of the best perks of attending a Hameau Artist Retreat is the access to tons of free art supply samples at the "Sponsors' Table." Susan has worked hard to get national art companies to back all of her workshops. Her sponsors are Gamblin Artist Colors, Jack Richeson, Savior Faire, Sennelier, Art Cocoon, and Multimedia Artboard. Registration with the 2018 Hameau Artist Retreat is open, hosted in beautiful Big Valley, Pennsylvania, between May 14-19. “The week-long May and four-day-long October retreats offer day options, and are open to artists of all skill levels. They provide on-location painting opportunities throughout the rolling hills and Amish farmland of the Big Valley.
“The May annual retreat offers day options and includes the a la carte and Art Reception and Exhibition and Mentor Day. You can spend the entire week with other artists in a positive and supportive atmosphere or design a personal plan to fit your schedule and budget.
